Ar-Rehman: discover the beautiful names of Allah
Ar-Rehman means the most generous, the most merciful, the most gracious, and the most capable of giving and benefiting.
Is this simple definition enough for describing the Ar-Rehman?
Ar-Rehman and the mercy of Allah
Ar-Rehman is used 55 times in the Holy Quran and 133 times in the bismillah. This is the fact, but what secret lies behind it? Allah could have used Ar-Rehman once or twice, but he used it multiple times.
Ar-Rehman stores the deep meaning inside it. It’s not just the name, it’s the characteristic of Allah, it’s the love of Allah for his creature, it’s the condolence of Allah for his regretful people, and it’s the mercy of Allah.
He is reminding us to not worry and have a firm belief in him. He’ll solve your problem, will forgive you even with one drop of tear, and will bless you with the best. Have firm belief in Ar-Rehman, as a newborn baby has in his mother.
Ar-Rehman is the answer
Who can know the creation better than the creator?
We are his creation and he is our Ar-Rehman, our creator. He knows us best. He is aware of our circumstances, hardships and struggle.
If you are feeling lonely, remember Ar-Rehman: he is with you. If you are upset with the evil face of the world: talk to Ar-Rehman. If you are depressed: recite Ar-Rehman.
Hadith on Allah’s mercy
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Allah has divided mercy into one hundred parts; and He retained with Him ninety-nine parts, and sent down to earth one part. Through this one part creatures deal with one another with compassion, so much so that an animal lifts its hoof over its young lest it should hurt it”.
Allah’s mercy is infinite and can not be measured with the scale of the world. No matter how much we describe, write, and speak about him being Ar-Rehman. We can not measure his divine gratefulness, his love, and his kindness for his creature.
Tips to get divine mercy
Allah loves those who love his creature and follow the path of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He bestows his mercy on people that show mercy for his creatures. Be it a human, animal, Muslim, or non-Muslim: they all belong to Allah. If you want to live and die with the mercy of Ar-Rehman, you will need to show mercy too.
